About Us

The Gold Coast Towing Story
Founded by Bill and Mary Clayton in 1970, Gold Coast Towing began its journey with the construction of their first tow truck. Initially operating from Mary’s father's wrecking yard on Petrie Creek Road in Nambour, the introduction of one of the first tow trucks on the Sunshine Coast equipped with a power-driven winch and revolving flashing lights marked a significant milestone.

As the business flourished, a second larger tow truck was added, and the first driver was hired. By 1974, Bill and Mary relocated the business to Crusher Park Drive in Nambour to accommodate its growth.

In the 1980s, Bill Clayton recognized an opportunity in the transportation of heavy equipment and hand-built a low loader to meet the demand. Most new additions to the fleet were meticulously crafted by Bill himself, starting from the chassis up, in his carport. As the business continued to expand, it outgrew its backyard location and moved to its current address at 563 Bli Bli Road, Nambour.

In 1986, Clayton’s Towing was appointed as the RACQ Service Provider in the Nambour area, a partnership that continues to this day. Over the years, this relationship has expanded to cover other areas of the Sunshine Coast, reflecting Clayton’s commitment to dedication and professionalism.

In the 1990s, Mike Clayton, son of Bill and Mary, joined the team and played a key role in implementing the latest equipment and technology. This investment in infrastructure allowed Clayton’s Towing Service to establish itself as a leader in the towing industry, eventually becoming the largest towing company in Queensland.
